We have a treehouse in our garden, just as it is drawn in the artwork, and over the years we have enjoyed watching our children play in it. They have now outgrown it and we are more likely to see one of our pets in there now than as opposed to our children, but every now and then one of them may still go up. The treehouse is opposite the studio, so I look at it each day when I go out of the door and I often think of the days when it was full of noise, children and the odd pet. Perhaps though the most poignant part of the artwork for me is the one single fallen leaf on the floor which represents my much loved sister who is now no longer with us. My memories of her are very much wrapped around the love she had for my children and all of her family; she would sit in her wheelchair and love to watch them play in the garden. In 2002, Doug Hyde was a young artist painting pictures for his family and friends in his spare time.

Yet despite his phenomenal success he has never lost touch with the realities of life, and has continued to produce work based around his love for his family, his unfailing optimism and his sheer enthusiasm for life.
